If so, how would you like to end your days?

(Oh, and how old are you?)

It frightens me more to think I will end up living my last days with my kids, sheeeesh! I think I would rather the tranquility of a reputable old age home where at least I can talk of the good ol days lol.....

It does, yes. My grandmother is 90 and in a retirement home. She lives in another country so I see her only once a year, my mum goes more often. As retirement homes go, she is lucky and it's a very good place where she is well looked after, but when I go there it breaks my heart. There are so many old people there who have nobody that visits them, some have no family at all, others have been put into this home so that the family does not have to deal with them. That frightens me, being so alone at the end of your life, but it's perhaps years of loneliness because you don't know how long you will live. For many, going into a home also signifies a loss of dignity because it means they can no longer take care of themselves.
For me personally, I think I would rather die suddenly at the age of 70 but be healthy, than live til 100 but spend my final 10 years in a retirement home. That's not to say I don't think people in a retirement home can have good quality of life, because I'm sure many do. I think if I were still fairly mobile I wouldn't mind so much.

(I'm only 23 but I do think a lot about these things because of my grandmother)

Sadly, that's where many of us will end up. If a person has never been to a nursing home (old age home) before, then one should realize that it is no treat. My mother died in such a home this past January, at the age of 75. It was a very sad sight to see people who are confused (many with Alzheimers) or with physical ailments and disabilities. And to know that there is no chance of leaving (except for the cause of death) is very depressing. As Fate would have it, my mother's nursing home was a former hospital, and she died in the very room where she gave birth to me. How's that for Life going full circle? So, yes, I suppose it is troubling to know that any of us could end up in a similar situation.

Currently 34 and yes it does frighten me to live out my days in an old age home. I'd like to go out in a blaze of glory so that I do not have to suffer a slow death

Yeah. My aunt died a few months ago in one (she was 78). She died from a blocked bowel that poisoned her. She complained but was told (by the staff) the pain is just part of getting old. Being rather timid she didn't push the issue.

I'm 50 and I don't like to think about dying or how I want to die.

When I'm old, I want to live in an apartment complex for old people where you are pretty much independent but there is still people there to help you if you run into a bit of trouble. Hopefully I will still have my mind.

I'm not afraid of that happening because I will terminate my life well before that time.
