Depends on who you ask. Asked differently the Presbyterian would answer it like this:

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man's chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him forever.

And I agree.

Ask one of my friend it is to enjoy better living through chemistry (or illegal drugs).

Again depend on who you ask. People say it is a journey with no known end. But in reality I think people just don't want to accept other people point of views.

You were more than a cosmic/evolutionary accident. You were created by a designer with a special plan for your life.

More important than what is the meaning of life, is the question, how do I live life with meaning? If a person is ont living each day as the Lord would want then too, then its time not well spent.

For me, as I've often said, it is in my attempts to live 'in the moment,' thus becoming aware to a wonderful degree just how present the present is, that I find meaning in life.

It is super to sit on my porch and slowly become aware of each little sound, smell, touch, taste and feeling at that very second, and the next, and the next. Quite refreshing when I succeed at it... and always that supplies me with a new way to look at what had seemed old. Life means now.

Life by itself holds no meaning, in order for something to have meaning to factors must act:

- a sentient being
- a term of comparison

The first is crucial, only sentient beings question nature and their own person, thus they try to give meaning to events.

The second refers to something (in most cases) opposite to the problem in discusion.

For example if you want a sunny day to have meaning you must see a rainy day also.

So live holds meaning only for sentient beings, and only in the when we face death.

My conclusion is that life has whatever meaning we give it, for we 9as far as we know) are the only sentient beings that reflect and that are capable of giving meaning.

Hope this helps.

I think the purpose is to learn something, and to teach something. I also believe in reincarnation, like every religion (including Christianity up until a few decades ago).

"Here is a test to find whether your mission on life is finished: if you are alive, it isn't." -- Richard Bach

Read his books, they will change your life. Start with Jonathan Livingston Seagull.

Learnt this from Evan Almighty...

Life is about doing One Act of Random Kindness at a Time.

If you've lived your life doing enough good, it will be meaningful. You will live with no regrets, and die with no regrets.
