Peyton Manning has the most sharply tuned eye for reading defenses at the line. His knack for calling audibles on the fly is unparalleled in today's game. He definitely goes in there doing his homework and seldom is there a day when he is unprepared. That said, Joe had a natural instinct and is incomparable when it comes to composure in the pocket during pressure situations. How many last minute comeback drives has he engineered? It's really hard to say because both QBs have/had exceptional receiver corps, solid anchor in the backfield, and solid o-lines. Right now, I'd take Joe because Peyton has yet to win as many rings. Furthermore, I think there is less parity in the QB position today. Joe had to compete with the Elway and Marino era. (As well as a few other off and ons that had breakout seasons) Peyton really has no real competition other than Brady.

Do I get Bill Walsh, Roger Craig, and the 49er defense along with Montana?
I think Manning is a better pure quarterback.
Championships are team achievements and completely irrelevant to a comparison of individual players.

I watched Joe Montana play both on television and live for years. Joe was cool as a cucumber under pressure and I can't tell you how many times I watched him bring the 49'ers back from a potential loss. Granted the Niners had lots of tallent but let's face it, Bill Walsh was a football genius and knew how to pick tallent. For those of you too young to remember Bill, pick up his book called "Building a Champion" and read it. Anyway, back to your question. For me, it's a no-brainer. Joe Montana anyday. Manning is good but he's no Joe Montana.

I would rather have Joe Montana. Peyton is great football players and certaintly a future hall of famer, but I think Joe was better under pressure. Take Manning out of the pocket and you have a completely different player.

Joe Montana any day.
As the previous guy said out of the pocket, Manning is in trouble.

your question is too all over the place...
it's like a refrigerator with a magnet poem thing...
it's just too much too look at...
the only way to really know the answer to your question is to pit them against each other in some kind of ultimate madden challenge.
someday, there will be a game like that, when you can choose any QB against any line and qb, or even a fantasy team...
now wouldn't that be fun?!?!?!

Just reading your rambling, disjointed statement makes my head want to explode. As to your question, Joe Montana.
