I'm not black obviously, so everything I say here will be pure speculation, but ...
I think it depends more on the situation and the intentions of the person who is saying it. If its some redneck running his mouth off, then I'd say that probably most black people would be offended by that use of the word.
If its used in a friendly context, by acquaintances who obviously don't mean any harm, I don't think that so many people are *that* uptight about it. And then some people are offended by it period, regardless of the situation -- or the race of the speaker.

I used to think it was 100% but now i'm sure its not. Me and my black friend call each other n1 ger and cracker back and forth all the time. You know you're really not racist when both of you can make racist jokes and laugh till your red in the face. The first time I found out what cracker ment I laughed so hard... seriously for 3 days i would randomly start laughing in the 3rd grade. Its just such a creative reference. its funny. I feel fine saying niger to my friend cuase I'm making fun the ignorance of old white people more then anything. Anyways people need to break down all the walls, everyone needs to learn to laugh at each other and most of all themselve. Seriously If white people started hanging around more black people everyone would learn alot from each other. You learn really quick that we both are really the same in the important ways and very different in the funny stupid ways.

Totally depends on who is saying it. They call each other N****r all the time, and understand they are just kidding. But when a white person uses the term, they had better be a pretty darn close friend, because otherwise you wonder whether they don't mean it.
I'm white, but I've been privileged to have black friends who allowed me to tease with them and call them N****r. They called me Honky. (Bet the censor doesn't turn that word into asterisks!)

alot, all though its not so much the word itself as the intent behind the word. i let my white friends get away with it if they say it with an a at the end and not er if theyre talking to me like yo wassup my niga, like that. they call eachother nigr alot but really if i know they mean no offence i dont care but if someone says it to me trying to offend me or with racism being the point of saying it then i will bust them in the mouth right there on the spot.

To me, that word is no more an insult as it is used by rappers..etc. Whenever i hear it, i just know it doesn't apply to me. Infact it's rather old and outdated. Whoever wants to use it can use it but i just shrug my shoulders and don't really care. I have more important things to worry about that some stupid word.

I don't, but I'm mixed. Though I find it ironic when a lot of my friends who are of African descent (like recent immigration) who's family were not part of the slave-trade who get all worked up about the word, when it doesn't even apply to them.....

for one thats not his or her name. why would anyone want to call someone else a name that may offend someone. it`s not cool. just calling anyone names is not cool. we as Americans need to grow up without the hurting each other feelings,.
