Umm I really have nothing against AOL except they are dial-up.

I used to have AOL before I switched to Qwest/MSN. I never had any problems with AOL; they are pretty cheap, a well reputable company, and if I did customer service was always nice, friendly, and helping to me. If you have kids its easy to have parental controls. And Ummm the only problem I have with it besides it's dial-up is like only movie trailers or youtube is slower and pauses a lot due to the dial-up. i think they have a new program going though that makes them high speed? I dont really know though you would have to look into that.

As often as people complain about AOL, it's actually a fairly good system. Dial up is rarely busy, and you can log on almost any place in the USA. (We travel and visit family and friends who tend to not have wireless connections.) We live in a high speed black hole in a major city, so we have no choice but to get dial up. (A local phone company has advised us that they now provide DSL in our area, and we have ordered it to try it out.)

At one time, we canceled AOL and went with a cheaper dial up internet provider to save money. We weren't happy with the other provider, not as smooth as AOL. AOL contacted us, we told them that we left because of the price, and they matched the other provider's monthly cost. So... you might be able to get AOL to cut their monthly price.

Good luck!

If you like chat rooms they AOL is cool for that.
But it will load up all these programs on your computer that will fight against the operating system on how to handle your online activity and protection.

Big headache in my opinion. But if those chat rooms are worth it to you...which is just about all AOL is good for.

Lets not forget their technical support is crap from overseas for the most part.
And trying to discontinue service is always a pain in the butt with them, enough to bring 2 class action lawsuits against them

I found them to be pretty good. the usual problem, which is the same with almost all ISP's are the call centre staff, totally useless.
AOL software isn't great either, I bypassed their software and just used IE to access the net, it worked much better and was more reliable.
Speeds, reliability were good I found.

Back when I had AOL, I had nothing but problems with them. They actually LOST my account once. I had no service, and they had no record of me actually being with them. Also, their web browser is nothing but a ram eating nuisance. I wouldn't recommend them at all.

Ugh... Personal opinion is that they are more corrupt than many ISPs and internet experience contracters. Comcast is a close second though.
