You could see he told the ref prior to the play that he was going to call the TO and he, and John Lynch, were right in the refs face prior to the snap. Smart move by Shanahan.

It was on national television, Mike Shanahan called a timeout while Sebastan Janikowski was kicking the field goal. It was good. The Raiders were celebrating, but hold on for a minute. The Broncos called a time-out. The second attempt, the ball hit the top of the post wide to the left. Denver has the ball and they were driving. At the end, Jason Elam kicked the game winning field goal.

They let the sideline ref know what they are going to do and when they feel thats it is getting close to the snap They call their time out. Usually They will wait on a two count snap then call the time out. It is a timing thing Yes I guess you can call it luck do to that Because the Raiders did not go on a quicker count. I dont think that the Raiders were expecting that time out call so they just did there routine snap count..

The announcers mentioned that he talked to a referee on sidelines to warn him that he was about to call a timeout. He waited until just before the snap and called it and the ref next to him blew the whistle in time.

it wasn't luck...it was a sweet assasin! haha...he did it right on time to rattle Janikowski...He previously let the ref know that he was gonna call a time out...the ref was on alert...right before the snap, he called it, Janikowski kicked, the crowd roared, the announcers called the game, then they said "wait"..haha...Mike Shanahan did this in knowledge that it'll rattle the Raiders...which it did...Janikowski kicked a good, winning field goal, finding out that it wasn't good after all due to the T.O..that broke his concentration and he made an oopsie...haha...well, that ball coulda fell either way though... :)

The TO was called in time. I('m glad Seabass was rattled enough to miss the bank shot.
