I am speaking of the equivalence principle that tells us that all objects regardless of weight, fall at the same rate in a gravitational environment.

If you're talking about GR, almost certainly the latter. General relativity and quantum mechanics contradict one another at very high energy / low distance scales, so something has to give there. Maybe it's the equivalency principle, maybe it's some other facet of GR or QM.

One thing to remember about the equivalence principle in GR is that it only applies anyway to systems that are very small and not going very far compared to the gravitational field (or curvature of space/time) they are in. It's easy to convince yourself of some incorrect things if you forget that.

Yup, the equivalency principle seems to work. The relativistic effects of a gravitational field such as increased relativistic mass, time dilation, length contraction appear to be exactly the same effects you'd experience under acceleration in deep space.

The predictions of the equivalency principle match observations and that's all you can ask of any scientific theory.
