both.He is interested in making our lives holy and happy. a happy life w/out being holy is useless. you just do what you want, whether good or bad. but being holy, doesn't always mean you live like saints, or monks or in solitude.it just that you have a relationship with God..that's what He really wants.but He's not forcing anyone..

This is exactly why I don't read those kind of books.

A person, the author is serving out his own personal interruption of the bible.

I believe that God aka Higher Power aka Cr-eater, doesn't micro-manages our lives. I think the word "holy" is way too subjective a word to base any theology on. Man made religion is based on assumptions that have woven a thing called "religion"

To me. God is pure. He is all good, all knowing. This good God has no reason to manilupate our lives. Since the fall of mankind (the apple in the Garden of Eden) God has given mankind freedom of choice. It is will that wants us to be like him. Pure and good, with out any human frailites. But, not one person has made their own way to that expectation.

We put ourselves that fail. I don't believe that God sends us troubles to teach us to be "holy".. I do believe that God or his angels do help us out ocassionally.

It is not God's job to make us happy. We have to choose a life that reflects happiness. God has already given us the answer to our state in humanity. We live our lives on earth choosing our path very carefully. God can direct us, but we are the ones that makes the choices.

I believe that the things in our question have no revelence in Faith or God & or religion.

Where does it say that God won't spend time making us happy but actually wants more for us...to be holy. Same question just written different.

When reading a book like this book.....take what you feel revelent to you and pass over whatever doesn't pertain to you.

Holiness and happiness are correlative, as both are about the fulfillment of the purpose of one's nature. The author probably is identifying happiness in the terms of modern culture, which is a sense of positive feelings or emotional satisfaction. A classical conception of happiness is more about one's purpose, than it is about having good feelings.

I dipped into this book when I saw it somewhere, and found it to be a pretentious load of tripe. Mr Warren may have his views about his own life, and live by them, but they mean nothing to anyone else. As far as I can tell the whole book is pure invention from start to finish.

Bagi,
I disagree. God is all about meeting our needs. He wants us happy, but also content. If we keep His commandments and do what He has set down for us to comply with, we should be content individuals. Our happiness isn't up to God, its up to us. That's how we exist,,,,and co-habitate,,,,and live.,, day to day. If we keep His commandments,,,,and live a righteous life style, and do exactly what He has told us,,,, then we make our own lives happy !!!!
The commandments are very clear;
Don't lie, Don't steal, Don't murder, Don't covet your neighbor's wife, Honor your father and mother, Don't commit adultery, Don't use the Lord's name in vain, Keep the Sabbeth holy...... stuff like that. If we do these things, then we will all be just fine. He has layed it out very clearly.
Exodus 20..... I suggest you read your Bible.
It's all in there, and its chrystal clear.

The comment is counter-intuitive. By implication it says that if you are holy you are unhappy. In every religion I've ever heard of, holy and happy are synonymous.

God wants you to obtain holiness so he can have a relationship with you.
the question is why does mankind run so vigorously from holiness?

God's plan is to make us holy. Happiness or sadness comes because of our actions

When and if you ever become holy,I'm sure you would be happy, unless you are the one who finds the bag of gold, and bitches how heavy it is.

if people do things they have never done before this life is to make it easier to remember everything you have ever done :;that way, when you do something new it wont be like waiting till its done, but just something that is part of what you always do
