A psychology degree is almost useless unless you take it to the next higher level, masters and PhD, to acquire a field of specialisation. If there is no specialisation, one will not be recognised by the Society of Psychologists and thus unseen as unqualified to practise in any related field of psychology.
All school psychologists in the States need at least a Masters in Psychology in order to carry out diagnostic assessments and testings. Take my friend for instance, she's studying for her PhD in clinical psychology in Monash University which will allow her to work with young children on behaviour modifications.
I know there're many degrees out there offering studies of psychology. Many people just want to get a degree in any field so if they cannot meet the requirements of those more specialised degree, they will probably try this, only to realise that this psychology degree does not enable them to get much of a well-paid job, unless they further their studies.

I am currently studying Psychology at a university. People say it's an easy degree, but maybe that is because it is so relevant? Everything we learn in the classroom can be applied to when you go to the grocery store, when you are the shoulder a friend leans on, when life is great and when life seems brutal. I find people interesting as individuals. If I wanted to deal with people in groups, and demographics, I would have gone with sociology. People are SO different from one another, and yet, we are all the same. To study that relationship is fascinating.
And yes, if you pursue a BA/BS in Psych, you better be determined to go to school for a while because all you can really do with a BA is social work, that is, you'll be over worked and under paid.

When I attended college back when the dinosaurs roamed the earth the BA and BS in Psych was not only very popular but rather easy I thought.
They were, and to a degree still are a dime a dozen.
It's a popular major because it is fun and there is a great deal of room for lively debate and discussion and it's slightly more marketable at the undergraduate level than a major in philosophy and sociology-two other majors that are fun and lively.

I don't think that psychology if studied seriously is an easy degree to get. But I do think that people have an instinctive urge to understand their fellow human beings. It makes it easier to understand why someone does the things that they do. IF we can understand that than we're less likely to take things so personally. Psychology is also a way of getting to know ourselves better with out admitting to other's that that's what we're trying to do. It''s a form of self therapy.

It could be that the people who study this subject are genuinely interested in it and aren't necessarily looking for a career relating to that degree. College really is intended as a place for higher learning and that does include studying subjects than many other consider to be frivolous and stupid. I don't think any degrees are frivolous and that people go for them because they are looking for something easy to get. People really should study subjects they are interested in and are good at. Too many go for degrees they think will get them into great careers and then find themselves stuck in jobs they aren't really good at and are boring and unsatisfying to them.

i think a lot of people think it very interesting but i don't think it is easy because its not only about studying the abnormalities of people. those who take psychology also have to take up series of statistics plus the fact that cognitive psychology is really a pain in the neck.. a number second coursers (those who shifted to psychology) i have talked to in the past told me that they decided to take the course because they want to understand their self more or their loved one..
