I think the TOEFL is gaining ground in Australia and the UK, whereas IELTS remains pretty much unknown in the US. Check their webpages, but I'd guess TOEFL is cheaper because the speaking portion doesn't require an interviewer.

Both has got their own weightage...
Surely both of them will test your language skills abt 80% but in UK IELTS is familiar one...

i think IELTS is more recognise globally. if u need to continue your study in UK , australia.....etc, IELTS is compulsory.
TOEFL is only recognise in US.
