We recently moved and just got our internet hooked up today. We have 3 computers in the house. One up stairs, one in the family room downstairs and one in a bedroom downstairs on the other side of the house.

The one upstairs has the actual connection. We're using a wireless router for the other 2.

The one upstairs works great! The other 2 ... not so good. The one in the family room works, but it's slow. The one in the bedroom works sometimes, loses it's connection, freezes up and it's extremely slow.

Is this normal when using a wireless router? Could it be the brand (NetGear)? Is it the cable company (Knology)?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Try repositioning the router antenna for better signal propagation. Also reposition the wifi antenna of the 2 PCs for best signal reception. Cordless phone on the 2.4Ghz band could cause interference and wifi disconnection. Better move away from the router or PCs when taking calls to minimize interference.

You might need to boost the signal. It sounds like you have a large house or a lot of solid walls. You might be able to find better antennas for your router depending on the model. Karz is correct. You can get huge improvements in signal strength with slight adjustments to the angle of a laptop or an antenna. I'm talking very slight adjustments sometimes. It's better to make sure you have enough signal. That way you don't have to be a contortionist while using your computer because of the weird position you have to place your computer in just to get a good signal. I'm looking into a bridge that might help me downstairs so I can position the bridge perfectly and then run a wire to my computers. My wife has an external antenna on her computer that she can move around and there is about a six foot cable from the antenna to the computer. That works moderately well.
