=> x + 1 = 4 or x + 1 = - 4
=> x = 3 or - 5
Same way for |y - 1| = 7

the absolute value of something would always be both positive and negative.
|x+1|=4 so that would be...
|x+1|= 4 AND |x+1|= -4
the solve for x.
x+1 =4 and x+1=-4
the x would equal...
x= 3 and x= -5
