haha i love it how this question is under Garden & Landscape section :)

btw whatever you do don't poison it because the meat would be useless and if you poison it you could die from eating it. Just chop the head of quick, easy and safe and it's been done like that since so long ago

Except for some weird French and Oriental dishes, why would you want to keep the head? 'pink-' has half the procedure, whack there head on something solid, like the chopping block. This does two things, one it knocks them unconscious and second they automatically stretch there necks out for the coup de grace, a swift chop with a clever or hatchet. The uninitiated and faint of heart may want to close there eyes now because the chicken will now do the headless "chicken dance", I've had friends go vegetarian after this sight. That's the easy part, next it's the guts and all those pin feathers that are a real pain unless you have a mechanical plucker. I don't know how I ever got along without mine. I consider this an important lesson in life (and death), too many people seem to think they somehow raise those skinless chicken breasts in the plastic wrapper. RScott

Most chicken were slaughtered with automated chicken slaughtering machine. The machine will kill those chickens but it won't break their necks or cut off their heads. The chicken wasn't suffocated or poisoned either. I did not describe how the machine works because the descriptions won't be that pleasant. I will give you the descriptions only if you want me to. Now, you'll need to decide if you want to use that edit button under your question to add details or not.

I kill chickens all the time for dinner I do prefer to cut off it's head because you drain the blood faster but grap it and break it's neckit really is not that hard you should try taking apart a pig or a sheep alot harder.

No, you would not want to poison it. That would be very cruel. Why kill the poor bird? Just leave it alone, please. If it is getting into your garden either fence it off or talk to the owner. I'm sure if he knew you were that upset he'd keep the chicken penned up.

If you want a fast, clean kill, wringing it's neck or shooting with a shot gun will work. You will be digging shot pellets out of the meat if your intent is food. Poison will taint the meat and is a slow, painful death.
