Good question and one that should be asked. From what I understand there is really no risk. I know plenty of women who have children 9-13 months apart. In fact I have one friend with children ages 5-4-3-1....now that's close!
If you had a c-section then I would wait a little while. Best to ask your OB/GYN if this is the case. The uterus takes time to heal. Even though you said "text book" pregnancy c-sections still fall into this category from time to time.
Best of luck and Blessings all around.

Usually if you breast feed the baby after delivery, you wont get pregnant, until you stop breast feeding. Just an FYI. Thats mother natures way of protection against pregnancy. Usually within two years is safe, and recommended for both mom, and baby, to become pregnant again. That way you spaced them just right, and you've given your body ample time to heal, plus you gave the baby quality one-on-one time, and will probably continue to do so, even after your next child is born.

i wanted my kids close together too. i got pregnant with my son 4 months before my daughter's 2nd birthday and she was 2 and a half when he was born (i just had him 12 days ago). my mom got pregnant with my younger sister when i was only 4 months old and she had a safe and healthy pregnancy both times and then even got pregnant with my younger brother about a year after my sister was born. i guess it really depends on planning and how you feel physically and emotionally. i would still ask your doctor before going about this though just to ensure that everything will be safe and you will be able to have a healthy baby. good luck!

A year is probably the textbook answer, but I do know people who have kids 9 months apart!! Crazy, but it happens. Having kids close together is great. You also have to think of yourself though. If you have an infant, and become pregnant think of how tired you are going to be. Then, you will have a very small child and an infant. No sleep! Hopefully if you decide to have your kids very close together you have a lot of help and support!!

I don't know if this is any help but my husband and his sis are 10 1/2 months apart. My mother in law said the second birth was a breeze because her body hadn't gone to it's pre pregnancy shape yet. She had four more children after that. Good Luck.

I've heard that it took you nine months to have a child so allow nine months to a year for your body to get somewhat back to normal before trying to get pregnant again. Check with your doctor. Also, kids too close together tend to fight more and feel more competitive over friends, sports, etc. Take that into consideration also. I know this from experience with friends and family members (children and adults).

The ideal is at least 12 months. People fall pregnant earlier than that and be fine... but 12 months is ideal for your own body. It gives your body a chance to heal before bombarding it with another strenuous activity to deal with.

I think you should wait to at least the baby is a year old. That will give your body time to heal

I started searching on WEBMD.com that i use all the time, but then i stopped and have to say like "april", and "meatbag" (and others i may have forgotten):
Talk with your doctor. He/She knows what has been going on with you during the first pregnancy, and they can determine whats best for you. "Individual results may vary" I say.
Good luck and be safe :-)
