I recently bought an automatic 2001 Chrysler PT Cruiser Limited. I think it has tranny problems. The 3rd day I had it, I was slowly backing out of a space and when I stopped to put it into drive, it made this huge bang and shudder. It's similar to when I had a bad torque converter on my last car and you had to keep gassing it until it finally caught and rocketed forward, but less dramatic. It continues to do this almost everyday at random and with varying degrees of banginess. It seems like when I am very careful shifting and acceIerating it doesn't do it as much. It happens in reverse or drive. I had it inspected by a former Chrysler tech. and he thinks it's okay. It really only happens at low speeds. And when I'm in stop and go traffic, it's like it almost trips - very hesitant sometimes, other times it drives normal. It's bipolar. I think it's the tranny, but everyone thinks I'm paranoid because of my last car's tranny fiasco! Someone said it might be my linkage, but Idk. Thanks!

there is something wrong with the lock up switch on the transmission. There is a sensor / Switch that locks the torque converter up. Sounds to me like this is failing. I would take it to the dealership (Perfurable chrysler) and have them run a full check on the transmission. I my self have not been in to one of these new chrysler transmissions so I can't tell you if this is something that can be done with out pulling the transmission, but from what your discribed it really sounds like the Lock up switch. This does have the potential of doing damage to the transmission, so I wouldn't let it go for too long. Here is a link that can give you a little more information on Chrysler transmissions.

Short of checking the fluid level there's not much you can do.
Take it to Aamco Transmission or some other tranny place for a free diagnostic.

if he's exhibiting you warning signs he probably wont say hes busy yet while he does merely attempt to re manage yet another date which he cant say no to, do no longer hate him for asserting hes busy as he could merely be too shy

agree with answer 2 if not clutch adjustment or blocked filter pickup
