at Kent state University ...who were protesting the vietnam war? and why?

Untrained Ohio State National Guard troops, untrained in crowd control and (of all things) given live ammo for a politcal protest. All in all a terrible mistake.

The Ohio state National Guard. There may have been a fire in a dormitory, and someone yelled fire. Although the Guard was not authorized to have loaded weapons. Which member of the Guard shot first is unclear.

The National Guard, Ohio. They heard the command fire, it was never really determined where the command came from. However the troops were outnumbered and afraid. Regardless of what some on here will tell you, the 60's hippies were not a friendly bunch.....

national gaurd troop my understanding is that somebody yelled fire and they all shot.
