It was all about a media frenzy. The McCanns are the ones who created it in the first place in the hope of finding their daughter/covering their tracks. I don't think that I would use the term victims though as they created the monster which is now consuming them. It is gullible to think that you can control the press as the only people with the power to do this are the government and even they make mistakes with what they say or do. Control of the entire population is near impossible and the McCanns are learning this point. It's better to stay out of the limelight unless you want the whole world to watch you fall.

It most certainly has become a media frenzy.
The saddest part about it for me is that 99% of missing children NEVER get this type of coverage. They might get a 30 second slot on their local TV news.
Why are other children not as important as Maddie? I am not saying Maddie is insignificant in the least bit...just that other children deserve equal coverage. Too bad most parents don't have the funds to launch such worldwide campaigns.
In the end, if it comes out that the parents had something to do with Maddie's disappearance then I will be so ticked off that they wasted the world's time. All that time and money that could have been spent on other less fortunate missing children.
The whole situation turns my stomach.

It's difficult to work out which way round it is. Are the Mcanns the Press's creatures or is the Press the McCanns' creature?

Yes and it is for this reason that the McCanns and their supporters, Richard Branson, the Archbishop of York and others, wish to turn public attention to the 'search' for the missing Madeline.
It was the press/media who decided to call Madeline by the silly name Maddie. Her parents have never called her by this name, it is meaningless.
The parents of Madeline are not 'grieving' for a dead daughter, because they believe [most fervently] that she is 'missing and not yet found'. They are searching for a kidnapped/abducted child.
All those who have said and written cruel things about the McCanns do not have the milk of human kindness in their hearts and souls.
We must always hold on to our British belief in that a person or persons is 'innocent' until proved guilty beyond a shadow of a doubt.
The McCanns have not been charged with anything. They therefore must be presumed innocent, even if and when a charge is laid against them.

No idea! but I'm afraid the whole affair is spilling over into a class war. I have every sympathy and compassion for the 'chav-nots', but only if they espouse the values that their class is supposedly known for- that of being hard-working respectful and keeping their venemous bilious opinions to themselves! PS1 I do not read the 'red tops'- whatever they may be! PS2 and all the complaints they have about immigrant workers from eastern Europe makes my blood boil!! I would sooner hire a Polish plumber to do the job quicker, more efficiently and cheaply and deport the chavs instead!

Yes, but didn't they court the media a little bit? Giving media personal/private information about their jogging schedule, details of the twins, their plans, etc?
You can't switch it off and on like a tap whenever you fancy which is why they should have kept the twins and their private stuff out of it.

Not known if innocent or guilty, but the fact that they are now involved with Max Clifford raises big doubts about them not wanting media speculation in my mind. Are they already getting ready for the book and it's serialisation in a red top paper?

Not just a media frenzy, but a YA frenzy. Looks like a case of confusing role-playing computer games with reality...Oh dear I see 'Alien' has quite lost the plot! tch tch!
