I felt that most of the time until about 35 years of age. Seems
it was the peculiar quality born of being an "intellectual female" in the psychological sense described by Freud - girls that identify with their fathers and communicate more easily with male thinkers.
There were transition times when I experienced exactly as you describe, "special....and then suddenly realize....Oh! Not so special after all!!"
Time and exposure to a great variety of individuals eroded it. Now I feel special in that there are no duplicates of myself, and I think of others in the same sense.
Though an unusually intelligent, delving philosoph such as yourself reminds me that there is a uniqueness to what I was: perhaps one might call it immersed in Ivy League sensibility.

Yes, to certain people like my family and some friends, but to others sometimes I have felt special, but when I realized they weren't really a friend after all, then I realize the specialness to them was an illusion.

yeah, like when you take those iq tests on tickle and find out you're a genius just like the 10 year old that aced it before you did...or when you try to help a child with third grade math and cant remember how to multiply and divide fractions...talk about a brain fart...
