The flat screen doesn't just go black, the power is off. Pressing the power button does not turn it on. This is inconsistent. Sometimes it doesn't do this. My pc is a 2 yr old Acer.

cirric is correct...
go to control pannel, power option, on the power scheme tab, change all the down arrow to never... make sure that all of those option in the power scheme are all change to never... then thats it... goodluck...

just try this it may work just press on the enter key in keyboard or click on to the mouse when the monitor is turned off

Hi. Double check your 'Power Options' in Control Panel. Set it to 'Always On'.

simply wiggle the mouse around and it should turn on
