11 going on 12..... 14 going on 15. ?? As if when they tell the person what age they are they need to remind that other person that they will not stay that age forever and will soon be a different age soon.

OH....DUH.....!!

I know adults don't say this cause most of us don't want people to know what age we are...ha ha..

But why do kids feel the need to do this. I have always wondered...

Exactly what the first person said. If a child is 9 years old and their birthday is in a few months, they will say 9 going on 10 to let you know that they are older. Kids are proud of getting older and don't want to be compared to someone who just turned 9. Can't you remember being little and doing that, especially when you were 12 and almost a teenager. That was such a big deal. I'm 29 and think I will stay that age for a little longer than a year. Ha ha!

I think kids say that because they just want to be older and are eager in growing up so they always reming the other person that they're going to be an age higher soon. Get the point? I know though it is kind of dumb to say what age they are going on to be. lol :)

Most kids do it when their birthday is coming up.

Or if they are 13 but turning 14 that year they say it so they don't seem 1 year younger.

Some younger kids are proud that they will soon be older and older kids are just in a rush to grow up.

I didn't used to say that. When I was little and my Aunt would sometimes take me to the restaurant. The cashier would ask how old I was, I would reply "I'm 8 and half years old." My Aunt would nudge me a little and say "just say you're 8." I was defiant I was older then that! Not just some little kid that just turned 8!lol

I don't. I'm 18 in November. If someone asks me how old I am, I'll say I'm 17.

My Mum always use to tell people that my brother and I were 8 going on 9 etc when we were younger. I hated it, I told her, no I am 8!!
