It's very simple and one I learned when I worked in news for a decade.
Its the way people, world wide, read the news.
Most people read the headline
Then followed by a much smaller percentage reads the first three paragraphs
Then followed by a small minority read the whole article or news story.
Therefore, since the vast majority of us get our news from headlines, then the headlines rules mosts political thoughts.
Which makes Goebles statement that to tell a lie long enough the people will eventually believe it. And even if they don't, it puts a lot of doubt in their minds.
The left and right is just as guilty, though I would say the right does it one hell of a lot more because the left doesn't need to lie since they have all the truth they need from the right screwing America and the world from hither to yonder.
Thoughts?
Peace
Jim

Your pretty much the kind I am talking about. The one size fits all mantra in which nothing of what you said could be even considered close to the truth.

I said the left and right does it, but the right is more guilty. The right must be, otherwise they'd be toast. Plus, the news is not left, it is slightly left of center generally ------- I am left and the news pizzes me off all the time.

C'mon Jim, that's the way all of us Americans are raised, on half truths. We all want to be on the winning side whether it is right or wrong, but we want people to think we are on the winning side for the right reasons so we either argue the positives of our side or the negatives of the other side or both. Look at the media, we get half of what really happens all the time and people's quotes get strewn way out of proportion to what they actually said or someone starts their video camera half way through the incident and we see police brutality without seeing why they're being so brutal.
Politicians are pros at that game and play it to the fullest with their faithful followers and Political Zealots basically say what they hear.
Now in a perfect world people would stop and investigate before they made their decisions, they would listen to both sides without prejudice and weigh out the pros and cons of each party, democrat or republican or green or people's, etc.
However, this is not a perfect world, and people have over a hundred years of media under their belt and they make their decisions off half truths and hearsay and sometimes flat out slander. I blame a lot of today's problems on the media, but If people would use the intelligence they possess media would have no power over them either.

Sometimes I wish there really was a 'left' in American politics. These days the 'left' or the 'liberals' are just an all purpose strawman that the reactionaries that hijacked the current GOP use for their 'inside enemy'...It's their Emmanual Goldstein...enemy of 'Big Brother'. (If you haven't read the book, now is the time!) I'll bet a dollar to a donut that you can drive up and down the streets of America and never actually meet up with a real for real red-blooded red. Maybe if you had a time machine and went back to the 1930's you'd have better luck..but now? Take a break! The democrats, now called the 'far left' by the right wing talk show dummies are about as middle of the road as it gets...so middle of the road they never bothered to to put up much of a fight when it became obvious that middle class wage-earners were taking it in the shorts big time. Now at least they're making noises about it, while the Bush Junta losers don't even know there's supposed to be a middle class. As far as the media is concerned, I too once polished verbs for the 'Daily Blather'...our motto was..What they conceal, we reveal. If only it was still the same these days..it ain't..the corporate owners and advertisers would have a fit. Fergetabout the 'left'....it's long gone...the political spectrum is now center to reactionary and the reactionaries are a bunch of truely nasty fascisti mother...fill in the blank! No kiddin'!

Zealots are usually very shortsighted. Their goals are for the here and now and damn the future. All zealots on all sides do this. We have been subjected to the conservative religious right zealotry since before Reagan took office. Now we have Bush who seems to be the culmination of all of the efforts of these zealots.
The old saying is still true, give a person enough rope.... The zealots of the conservative religious right have the rope and look what is happening. We will see if the ultra-liberal left gets their length of rope and how long it takes them to run it out.

sorry, i kinda lost interest after the headline, but i'll say this about that: most nespapers are aimed at a general population operating on the level of one with a sixth grade education. in the us it is mandatory we all go to school a minimum of eight years, however, you can send a child to school but you cannot make him/her think. around sixth grade puberty sets in and many get quite distracted. and yet many continue school, often on into college and still learn little more.

I artwork at a inn with a convention center (comprehensive eating place besides) and a guy got here as much as the table and asked me the place the eating place advance into. in case you look down the only hallway previous my table, you will see a sizable sign that reads "eating place". regrettably, i'm getting asked that query virtually on a daily basis.

Well, Jimbo, my thoughts are along these lines:
1 - What passes for news isn't,
2 - Simply looking at most rags will be injurious to my health, and
3 - Congratulations on having a very well-developed sense of yourself!

Well I have noticed many many right-wing talking points backed by links, in which the title of the article is the only thing that backs their comment.
I have found a few leftwingers do the same thing, but not nearly as many.
So i would have to agree with you.
