if it was a deserted island i would be alone and in no need of governance.

The principal characteristic is that I'd be the ruler and my first order of business would be to have all women brought before me so that I could choose the fairest of them all for my bride.
BTW, lose the "deserted" part about the island - it's so much more interesting when there are people out and about, don't you think?

If you're on a deserted island.. what would be the difference between a dictatorship of 1 person vs a democracy of 1 person?

No weapons would be allowed. Anyone who deliberately hurt anyone else- would be thrown OFF the Island & fed to the sharks. Anyone over 16 years of age WOULD work- or else they WOULDN'T eat. Everyone (Women & Men) would be Equal in all ways. There would be NO Buildings for Religions (you keep your Faith at HOME & mind your OWN business). And everyone would pay HALF of whatever they earned- to pay for Everything people used in common (healthcare; roads; keeping the Peace- etc..). And if somebody didn't LIKE these Laws, they would be tied up, put in a boat, and set out to sea- where they would never be seen or heard from- again. :)

You are the King, President, Prime Minister and Citizen on the deserted island!! So you make the rules and you break them!

I'd be all alone. It would be a 'one man - one vote ' system.
And ' I am that man ! '.
There'd be lot's of things to do though, I'd have to write a constitution to make it legal to vote myself into power.
I'd have to design a snazzy national flag, right now something
with a sunset ,a beach, a palm tree and a hammock suggest itself ( unconventional, but everybody in the world will recognize
it immediately after they've seen it once ).
I need a national Anthem " Ain't nobody's business but my own" will do in the meantime.
I will have to create an industry ( tourism ) to generate a national income, so as the surprising head of the national
tourist board I welcome you to the Independent Island State
of Loco - loco !! ...Credit cards are accepted, by the way!..

i would make it a comunist dictatorship but i wouldnt be killing everybody that didnt agree with me fully. i would just make sure everybody that was able to work pulled their own weight and enlisted in the military for at least 3 years after reaching the age of 18. also i would have strict, very well defined laws on violence and theft. i would make hard core drugs like smack and pcp and meth and whatnot illegal but pot or booze or tobacco would be alright. other than that i would not care what people did as long as it wasnt hurting other people. oh yeah, and i would have a fleet of pirates ready to take the goods of any boats passing by in times of crisis. and people could leave and join my country as they pleased. theres no need to make someone stay if they dont want to, and no reason to turn someone away if they wanted to become a citizen

I would create an Aristocracy of highly educated individuals to lead. The government itself would probably resemble communism with the one difference being that the people who are selected to govern will be educated to stay away from personal belongings and narcissistic pleasures in order to cut down on corruption and allow a social (limited)-democracy to flourish.
