Hi - I read this a while back - I can give you some notes from it but I'm not really sure about symbolism.

It's about this guy, who goes to his friends mansion - the friend is Usher - the house is pretty dark and depressing, almost seems haunted.

Usher also tells the narrator that he is ill. He later informs his friend that his sister has died and that she should be entomed for a couple of weeks, before being permanently buried.

Both find themselves agitated over the next week for no reason. The narrator read Usher a book and strange things start happening. Opening the window, there seems to be a strange glowing bog surrounding the house.

Also, there's sounds of cracking and splintering coming from below - the narrators room is right above the vault where Ushers sister was entombed.

Usher says it's his sister - apparently, she was alive when she was entombed.

The door of the narrator crashes open and there's Usher's sister - she attacks him and dies, also killing Usher in the process.

The narrator runs out of the house and looks back, in time to see the house split in two - and sink into the tarn.

- I think Usher was deeply in love with his own sister - they were overtones of incest in the story.

I read it awhile ago but you need to read it yourself!!! Do your homework, read a book, the best way to learn is to do the work yourself.
