If so, who were they, and what was so amazing about their stage show?

The Aquabats.

I kinda liked their music at first...

Then I saw them perform live... And Jesus Christ, what a wild show!

They actually fight super villians on stage... The Aquabats are superheroes by the way ;]

I saw them face Powderd Milk Man, CD Repo Man, The Cat With 2 Heads.

Then I loved their music and I am a hardcore fan to this day.

I mean, who doesn't want to see a bunch of fat guys dressed up in weird clothes and silver anti-negativity helmets and masks use a Giant Robot Birdhead to defeat the Giant Floating Eye?

Answer that one and I'll give you a cookie ;]

That would be Less Than Jake for me.

We were right up front when they all came out dressed in spandex, wigs, and a lot of scarves (ode to hair metal I suppose). It was so hilarious! The theatrics were what made me remember the songs and want to hear them again.

Oh, and then this happened...
My guy friend and I both got kicked in the face by crowd surfers and I caught a cold and developed an ear infection from some sick girl that coughed on me (which led to missing the Buck-O-Nine show I have mentioned before).

It's not a great show until someone gets kicked in the face : )

I liked Built to Spill but wasn't completely impressed with them until I saw a live show back in 1998. They played only 5 songs but the enthusiasm they played with and their genuine musical ability (the show was for over an hour) was amazing. Plus it helps they did a cover of Cortez the Killer.

Manowar - I was reluctant to see them live the first time, but I went with a group of friends anyway. They're definitely not my type of music, but after seeing their live show I'm a fan based on their performance alone. The cheesy metal act is so hilarious and their attire alone is funny enough. I saw them a second time and it was great as well.

I went to Ozzfest, about 6 or 7 years ago and Marilyn Manson was on the bill. I didn't really care for his music and pretty much sat down on the lawn to wait for Sabbath to come on. Man, he just sucks you in during his performance. He was amazing (....in a twisted Alice Cooper x20 sort of way). I was completely shocked and surprised. All in all, his performance was the best of the concert.

7dust. Just rocked much more live than on the cd. now I enjoy lisening to them on the radio and cd now. Their stage presence was awesome, plus the drummalmost nailed the signer with a stick as he was throwing it out in the middle of the song. that's always great.

Avenged Sevenfold.

They had this one song on a compilation CD I have and I wasn't very impressed with it, but when I saw them live at the 2004 warped tour I was an instant fan!!!

For me, it was Metallica on the And Justice for All - Monsters of Rock tour. I was amazed at how their fans just pounded for every song. Newsted showing up "at home" was all right too.

I had the reverse happen to me. I used to love the Beach Boys (I know, they were popular when dinosaurs roamed) and then heard them in person and they were really bad without the studio help!
