In fact, most honorary doctorates are a Doctor of Letters -- not a Doctor of Philosophy.
On the other hand, they won't give an honorary doctorate to someone unless they have great achievements or have donated lots of money. Those people usually don't have trouble getting jobs.

Maybe you should ask yourself if you could DO a job with this degree! Seriously, people who actually earn their PhD's work hard for them, and they know a poser when they see one. If you apply for a job with this degree you will be expected to provide information about your dissertation (which you didn't do) you educational background (which you don't have) and your relevant work experience (which you were probably given the PhD for in the first place) Seriously, is it not enough for you to be honored? Do you have to pretend you've earned it too?

Well as someone else stated, a person has to work extra diligently to earn a Ph.d./doctorate degree. A person has to do a dissertation with their own unique research and go before a board and go through the grueling process of an oral test questioning any or all of their research. Please stay away from those 'online schools' also known as diploma-mill schools which are for-profit such as university of phoenix, strayer u, kaplan u, devry u, kaiser u as most employers don't find them to be reputable. I would suggest concerning oneself with which career that one would like to gravitate towards as opposed to the lofty goal of a doctorate degree just yet :) Wishing you great success with whatever endeavor you embark on!
Here is a website for general career info: www.bls.gov/oco and type into search 'accountant', 'computer programmer' or whatever other field piques one's interest.
