It's staying under this water oxygen thing and it won't eat. I got him today and I've been putting in tons of puffer fish food and the other fish is eating all of it but the sick one won't do anything. It's a freshwater fish.

What type of puffer do you have? If it's a dwarf, it is a freshwater puffer, but figure eights and green spotteds are sold as freshwater, but actually need to have salt in their water.

Also, puffers are agressive and shouldn't be mixed with other fish - at least not of you don't want their fins to be eaten. Puffers are also slower swimmers, so other fish will always get to food faster. They should also have a regular supply of snails, since they need to keep their beaks trimmed - if these grow to long, the fish won't be able to eat at all.

Puffers are also sensitive to ammonia and nitrite in their tanks - they should only be put in a tank that's been running (with other fish that will be removed) for 6 months or so.

All in all, it's probably under the filter since it's new to the tank, unless you already have high ammonia or nitrite in the water - these interfere with the ability of your fish to use oxygen, and that's where the oxygen content is the highest.

We need more information. What type of puffer is this, what are the other fish in the tank, how big is the tank, what are you feeding him? And what is this water oxygen thing? If he puffed up air, that's really fatal to them. How are the water parameters? They are sensitive to nitrate, ammonia, and nitrite. Test your water and see if any of those are high. What are you feeding him? Most puffers will only eat frozen or live food. They can be trained on to flake food, but it's really hard to get them to. What ARE the other fish? They could be bullying him and you don't know it. So post more information, and I'll try and help you.

Puffers are pretty sensitive little guys, and you should be sure your water parameters are good.

But if you only just bought the puffer today, it's probably just still getting used to its new environment. Stop dumping food in (which will just foul up your water) and give the little guy some time to calm down.

precisely what species of pufferfish is it? What i could do is attempt the water for pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. How huge is your tank? Does it have a clear out and is it cycled? Is the fish showing the different warning signs (ie. wounds, scales protruding, spots, lumps and so on)? The greater coaching you supplies us, the greater useful we could have the skill to assist and diagnose the situation. Cloudy eyes are often led to via flukes, unfavorable water high quality or from time to time pop-eye. If there are the different fish interior the tank then i could isolate it in a spare tank in case you have one. Then upload an anti-inner bacterial scientific care. additionally carry out quite a few partial water transformations.
