Could it be a defective will or really selfish genes?

OJ is a good example of someone who appears to be incorrigible. The man lacks character and he seems to be sowing what he has reaped. His story also reminds me of Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment except OJ evidently lacks a conscience.

There is a psychiatric condition called "psychopathy"
"meaning "without conscience". Some people seem to live their lives with no morals or scruples (like OJ for example) and they are apparently unable or unwilling to change. OJ does appear to have plenty of willpower, all going in the wrong direction of course, and he is terribly selfish and self-centered, So you may be on to something there. Look up "psychopathy" in Wikipedia, and you will find a perfect description of Simpson.

Incorrigible

Incapable of being corrected; hence, a putative criterion of certainty.
==========================================
This the effect of a duel in belief systems. People who have been trained , grew up, educated and "brainwashed" along a philosophical "truth" will be incorrigible in all the principles of that belief system.
Let us introduce someone who grew up in a similar manner, trained, educated and "brainwashed" along a completely different philisophical "truth".

Result- a clash. one will appear incorrigible in the other's eyes.
Defective genes? hardly
Selfish genes- not even close.

There's nothing to suggest that it's in the genes.
But, an incorrigible person is someone who'll do
almost anything just from hearing someone say
something. (Similar to being gullible.)
