Disconect your battery. Better yet, go to Autozone and borrow a free scanner to chech the code and make sure why your check engine light is on. When you use the scanner you can clear the code.

Missing an oil change does NOT turn on the Check Engine Light (CEL). 1st thing to do is make sure your gas cap is not loose (the number one reason on newer cars). Then have a shop scan it for you if the light doesn't go out after a few days. Autozone can do a free scan... but they won't fix it for you. Unless you know how to interpret OBDII codes you're wasting your time going to Autozone.

On most newer model vehicles that is one reason the check engine light will come on. Did you change the oil yourself?? That usually happens because if you take it somewhere they have a little tool that resets that when they change the oil. Sometimes unplugging the battery for a little while will help get it to go off, but a lot of times it will come back on. You can take it to AutoZone or O'Reilly's and have them hook it up to the machine to make sure that is why the light is still on. If it is and you can't get it to go off you might have to take it in somewhere and have them reset it for you although some places will require that they get to change your oil first. Good luck :)

i agree with Mikeydo
don't waste yer time at Autozone they will clear freeze frame data along with the codes and the repair shop can use that to help see what happend to turn the light on
plus Autozone will try and sell you an oxygen sensor when you may have needed a gas cap

Most check engine lights come on when someone doesnt shut their gas cap all the way. If u go to a mechanic they will normally charge alot but its ur only option. Make sure u tell them that u already know the problem so they dont have to diagnose the problem. THey shouldnt charge u if u know the why the light is on because they dont have to diagnose the problem. Im a mechanic myself so i know. THEY SHOULDNT CHARGE U JUST TO TURN IT OFF CUZ U ALREADY KNOW WHY IT IS ON

Go to autozone or another store that will read the codes and reset them for you. Once you know the code, then you know what to fix.
good luck with it.
