I need to patch a section of my carpet. The size I need to patch is 2 feet by 1 1/2 feet. I will be patching just a few inches from the wall/front door. Here's my questions:

1. Will the patch job be noticeable at all or will it blend in to the other carpet?

2. Will the replaced carpet piece be loose or need stretched?

3. What if the carpet I am patching doesn't exactly match because my current carpet is used and the patch will be brand new?

I've never done this before so any advice for a first timer would be awesome! Thanks!

i saw this on TLC once. go into a closet you never use, or thats cluttered with junk. cut out that section however big you need it. make sure the piece of carpet you cut out of the closet fits perfect where the patch needs to go. now. at a carpet store for a couple bucks you can get this "carpet tape" (i dont remember the exact name, tell them what you are doing, they will help you) and you just put the tape half under the old carpet on all sides, and place the patch on top. and ta-da. you could hardly tell when i did it. hope it helps!

Here's my experience. As a landlord I've gone thru every type of carpeting and finally got so mad I ordered that short nap nylon/plastic stuff. I had it glued down. I figured no one could do anything to that carpeting. Well, the daughter dropped and left an iron and melted the carpet. I hired professionals to come take a piece out of the back of the closet to switch places. Does it show? Absolutely because of the lack of nap and they didn't take care to cut all the shreds from the outside edges. In other words-even if they had done a good job it would have shown. I have better business carpeting and they butt the ends up to each other and it's fairly hard to tell. So if you have nap, you'll be able to pull it off. It will wear soon enough. I would glue the edges and glue the piece so that it doesn't move. Be sure to match any design and direction and be careful to leave all the nap you can around the edges so you can brush it together. Since you're piece is so much bigger, it should be harder to tell. Lots of luck. And, oh yea, if you can take the piece from the closet, do that. It will have faded more than the new and put the new in the closet.

1. Yes, if your patch is new then it will be noticeable.
2. The replaced piece shouldn't be to loose if you cut it right. You can use some double sided tape to help hold it if you think you need it.
3. You can try shampooing your old carpet before doing the patch to help it blend better.
If you want to try something different. Take a few pieces of varying colors to your existing carpet and make it look like a custom "patchwork" carpet throughout the entry way.
Ex: If your current carpet is dark blue you could use several shades of blue or burgundy to spruce it up a bit. When you get tired of that look - just change the squares.

Hire a pro. They will come in match the carpet if possible, they should then cut out the old piece, and tape in the new one from the bottom, using a wax based tape and hot iron

you may touch a expert or purchase a carpet fix kit. It has a small cutter approximately 4 or 5 inshes accross the circle. that's utilized to take out a plug and replace with yet another, in case you nonetheless have an extra piece of the unique. it ought to have a sticky waxy piece to make it stay down tight. be confident nap is going in superb same direction.
