win basketball games, can you win games if you have a shooting guard that scores 30-40 ppg, and is a good defender? Do you really need a power forward/center, that is 7 foot to win games???
if you ahve a shooting guard that averages 30-40 ppg, against a team with 7 footer, do you think you can still win?

Basketball is all about team work, defense and offense. If you keep focusing on offense, you'll just look like the Suns. Just imagine the Suns without Amare, Kurt and Matrix. Any team will pound them easily. What are the chances of Suns winning the game if the opposite team is able to stop the Suns even just for few shots but the Suns are unable to stop the opposite team at all? Do you think the guards have like 100% FG? If the big men are able to keep them outside the perimeter, the guards are already dead. 30% FG tops and no offense rebounding at all. Even if the guards are in the D, do they have a guarantee shot against a 7-foot player?

its possible, but the rest of the team besides your shooting guard has to be pretty good. the center provides a huge defensive, post, and rebounding presence and if you take that away then you have to have a team like the suns, who are basically what this team would be. they're not very deep but their starters are all really good. the suns don't have a 7 footer or even a traditional center or power forward for that matter. amare fills the role of power forward but he really doesn't play the traditional pf position since he doesn't provide the defensive presence or as much of a rebounding one either. he's mostly a scorer. so a team without a 7 footer or traditional center/pf will probably have to put an emphasis on offense and be pretty good at what they do.

You can always win games with a shooting guard scoring that much per game. But having a quality big man makes life a little easier for any shooter on a team. I think u can get away with small ball throughout the regular season, but in the playoffs the team with the better low post presence usually has the advantage.

Just remember that you need 5 guys on the floor at any given time to win. No matter how good your shooting guard is, you still need quality centers and forwards. MJ averaged between 30 to 35 during his championship years but he needed quality power forwards like Horace Grant and Dennis Rodman. And although the Bulls' centers - Cartwright and Longley - were less talented, they were still quality seven footers.

Well how about this, Bill Russel is a center and he led his team to 8 straight championships and 11 in his career. Does that answer your question?
Well then.. I have none for now... Big men make a team into a winner. Michael Jordan could be one but he had a couple of great post players with him at the time.

no, you just need a team that plays well together (team chemistry). everyone on the team has to respect each other and believe that they can win.
Ex. look at the spurs this year

look at the warriors. they had a lineup of baron, jrich, barnes, jackson, and harrington. neither are Cs or PFs and they made it to the playoffs and had some success. so its possible to win games with a small lineup, but its unlikely to win championships.

look at the last few years, who won the title? you've got the lakers who had shaq, the spurs with tim duncan, you've got the pistons with ben wallace and agian the heat with shaq. i think without low post present you might be able to win but you wan't be able to with the title.
