At the end of her acceptance speech she said, "If the mothers ruled the world, there wouldn't be any G-ddamned war!" Fox was on a 5 second delay on this live telecast so they cut it out.

Thanks for the star Amy S.
I'm not choosing a best answer as there are several good ones. I'll leave it to the vote. I do think it's kinda ironic for Fox to censor when they tout that they are "fair and balanced".

susandiane311: Censorship comes in many forms not just by your government. Schools censor high school and college newspapers, companies censor what their employees can tell the public, some people try to get libraries to censor books that are available. If you don't let the WHOLE truth be told, that is censorship. It is not just the US Gov't. that does this.

When it comes to the US Constitution, censorship means GOVERNMENT censorship, not censorship by a privately owned media corporation like Fox. I'm amazed at the number of people who don't know the difference.
Ms. Field was being censored for saying "g..ddamn" not for her political views on war. GD is one of the words that can not be said over the public airways. Any other noncable network (ABC, NBC, CBS) would have censored this also.
She could have had her message heard if she left that word out.
Of course a lot of people want to make a mountain out of a molehill.

that's approximately place and time~! The Emmys isn't the region to debate the perspectives. She has an analogous oppertunity because of the fact something people American's , write on your represenatives. i'm happy she became muted~!

It's hypocritical because Fox was allowing other comments and jokes about Bush. Or when the Tom of Myspace.com awarded Al Gore of the Current network an award. Myspace is owned by Newscorp. (Rupert Murdoch and Fox News). The only thing I can think of is maybe because after Kathy Griffin's remarks they might have cut it out because she used God. I don't see why they couldn't just bleep the word and not the whole thing.

Yes absolutely.
First of all - she's wrong. If mothers ruled the world, we would always be at war. I can't even get an office full of all women to get along and play nice....God forbid, any of them had the BOMB!
And second - "sending our children off to be slaughtered"?!?
Hey Sally - News Flash - It's an ALL-VOLUNTEER Army you idiot!!! I swear some of these anti-war activists act like it's 1970 Vietnam and we have the draft or something.
Yes FOX did the right thing. But PS - I'm glad she won. She deserved the EMMY. I've seen that show a few times and she is outstanding.

No. It was censorship, done by a conservative network to protect an administration that deserves impeachment. The Republicans are so wrong on this issue, they can't even stand up to criticism from a ditzy actress. Watch how they will start the character assasination rather than deal with the real issue of an unjust war.

I'm just glad they didn't splice in a little message from Patreaus to fill the gap. And that David Chase's last minute musing about "if the nation was run by gangsters" slid through the screen.

After Janet Jackson's "wardrobe malfunctions," networks aren't taking any chances on anything that might possibly windup in a fine. And Sally Fields, who's been in the business forever should know better.

I agree with the poster Blondie. It was the wrong time and the wrong place for celebrities like Sally Field to be voicing their political rants at the Emmys about the war in Iraq. It was inappropiate. Fox was right to sensor her speech

Fox,
How dare you take away an American's right to free speech. It is our first amendment. By not allowing freedom of expression on your station you limit your viewers from being able to think for themselves and form their own opinions. Goddammit, isnt the most frightening word any of us have ever heard and I imagine it 'that word but what she was saying that you were so frightened of... buck up! Give Americans their right to say what they feel on TV. We'd all be better for it!
