Just remember that you can do anything you like - add, subtract, multiply, divide etc - to the equation, provided whatever you do, you do *to both sides*.
So
8x+3 = 7x
so
8x+3 -7x = 7x -7x
so
x+3 = 0
so
x=-3
.

You want to get the x all by itself.

Subtract 7x from both sides 8x-7x + 3=7x-7x
that is x+3 = 0

Now subtract 3 from both sides x+3-3 = 0-3
that is x=-3 which is your answer

8x+3=7x
8x+3-3=7x-3 [subtracting 3 from both sides]
8x=7x-3
8x-7x=7x-3-7x[subtracting 7x from both sides]
x= -3
