I am not a carpenter ( metal trades ) but I would think enough
material would be removed to eliminate the kind of spring back stress you are describing.great question, most people won't know what kerf means

On a table saw, The blade guard is usually fitted with a splitter and anti-kickback devices. A hand saw - nothing! Same as with a "Skilsaw". the longer the piece being ripped, the better chance of the kerf pinching the blade.

This is the reason hand saws are made as rip and crosscut. The rip has wider teeth to prevent the pinching.
A more direct answer is that the other grain keeps the grain next to the cut from moving - if it tried to move, it would have to stretch the outside grain.
