If your heat, stove and hot water heater are gas and turned off by the gas company then nothing will work. If your heat is electric and turned off by the electric company and your stove and hot water heater are gas, then it shouldn't effect those with the exception of if the stove has electric igniters and in that case, you will have to light up with a match. If you are talking about walking over and turning off your heater with the thermostat switch, then it shouldn't hurt anything else.

It depends on where your valve is. Are you turning off the gas supply to the entire house or just the heater? If your just turning off the heater, the stove and hot water heater will still work. If your turning off the main gas supply, no gas powered appliances will work.
