Im doing an acting competition and want to use the song Little Priest from Sweeny Todd. the problem is that it that the song needs to be 5 minutes long and the original song is 7 and a half minutes long..... can anyone help me shorten it to 5 minutes?

I need to get rid of the parts that i can i can do without, but i dont want to make the song boring and you need to be able to understand what is going on....

You need to clarify a few things. Are you singing this song by yourself or with someone else? I would assume you are singing with someone else as the song is a duet with Mrs. Lovett and Todd, but you speak in the first person as if it's just you. Also, do you have an accompanist or a CD accompaniment? A CD would be difficult to cut up, but an accompanist may hate you if you chop up the music too much especially without any rehearsal time. If it's your own accompanist he or she may be able to make the best suggestions as far as cuts go, but if it's an accompanist provided by the competition you will want to make 1 or 2 simple cuts, not several because that will be confusing and you'll be lucky if the poor person can even get through it!

Also, what exactly is your competition category? There's a lot of 'talking / banter' in this song so depending on your category you you would either cut some of that. You may want to cut where they sing simulatneously at the begining. Time it and see how long that is.
