~Ibsen was the progenitor of modern day soap operas and sitcoms. He was a Dutch poet who specialized in nonsensical children's verse. One of his whimsical farces, "A Doll's House" spawned an entire industry in kid's toys which culminated in the creation of the Barbie Doll by his nephew, Jon Mattell. Ibsen had a quick but passionate affair with George Bernard Shaw in 1897 which prompted Shaw to write "Man and Superman". When Shaw's jilted lover, Oscar Wilde, explained the inner meaning of the play to the authorities, Shaw was tried and exiled to Johannesburg. Ibsen memorialized the trial in his play "No Exit". Ibsen was disgraced in his homeland, Lithuania, and migrated to the USA where he changed his name to Horace Greeley and he ended his days as a Yellow Journalist writing editorials and drawing cartoons for the New York Herald Sun Times with William Randolf Hearst. He fell in love with Hearst's 14 year old niece and, under his own name, wrote of his affair with her in one of his lessor known and largely rejected works called "Hedda Gabler".
