I am a newbie with a 50 gallon salt-water tank and will purchase 2 clown fish soon. I would like to add some artificial decor, plants and/or coral for my fish so they are happy fish! I have a large rock with lots of tunnels in the tank now -- I'm just looking to add some color and favorite 'hang out' spots for my new clown fish...a happy fish is a healthy fish! Being a newbie I would like to stay away from live coral and plants until I'm more experienced.

You can really use anything that's safe for aquarium use for general decorations. Since clownfish do have symbiotic realtionships with anemones in the wild, you might try finding an anemone that resembles the ones that your type of clowns would use (that's right, different clowns will use different anemones) - find which anemones are used by which clowns in this link: http://www.wetwebmedia.com/ca/volume_3/cav3i1/Clown_anemone/Clown_anemone.htm . You can find some of the types of artificial anemones and corals available on these links: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/cat/infoL3/22960/category.web

I wasn't sure if clowns would use them, but I once has an "elephant ear" (saddle-type anemone: http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/group/15696/product.web ) in a quarantine tank with a pair of clowns, and they used it!

It kills the coral and fish. You are just going to have to get new coral

clown fish are sometimes timid so i would suggest something big they can hide in. for colour maybe some brightly coloured rocks and plastic coral. you can get these usually at pet stores.

hope That helps!
