Apparently she got bleeped and censored for her speech. I didn't see it. What was the big deal?

Fox censored her for far longer that a few words. It is another instance of fox being a "political police". Even if the phrase was obscene, it would have been the 1 or 2 words, clearly they censored entire sentences. The bigger question is how do we protest? networks should not be able to censor based on political bias without previously declaring such allegiance.

since this blog has "switched gears" there are still certain words that can not be said on free air TV, whether your paying for it on cable, sat etc., it is still free air TV. (George Carlin has updated the list of things you can not say on TV) The reason behind it is not political, but moral. There is still a young audience out there that also watches the Emmy's. Some parents let younger ones stay up a little late to watch but never intend for their ears or minds to be abused by an entertainer that they may like, idolize or see as a role model. There is always a stage for an entertainer, be it political or otherwise, they should just choose wisely. The attitude of "I have free speech and will use it anywhere I want, it's my right!" is correct from the onset, but morally maybe not. That is called maturity. Side note: Ms. Fields, lots of mothers have ruled in this world, wars were still fought, lost and won. Your idea is great, but not totally logical.

She isn't the only person who was censored. I've been accused of being too much of a "Liberal" (I'm not) and I might agree with Ms Fields, but she should have stopped when she mentioned her role in the show as a mother waiting for her child to return safely from war. She made her point. I watch the award shows for the entertainment, the fashion and because nothing better is on television. If I want to hear political rants, I can always turn the channel. I'd rather see more singing & dancing than listen to speeches.

Oh, to answer your question, I assume she used profanity.

Everything becomes such a big deal that nothing becomes a big deal. This Fox produced show spent more time parading starlets' brimming breasts, joking about them and bashing other networks, while shamelessly promoting theirs. Not that there's anything wrong about the human body.

I don't think we should spend too much time about Ms. Field's one seemingly offensive word, Britney's unrelenting callowness or Janet Jackson's dropping breast protection, even if it's more fun than discussing the continued incompetent but lethal hijinks of the Bush Administration. I don't want to reward Fox's tactics, best summed up as "Don't look here-at how we got our country into the Iraqui war and really messed up. Look over there-at that horrible word Sally Field said on NATIONAL TV! Weren't they patriotic and ethical in censoring her words!"

Sally Field actually spoke most of the time generously about the show's ensemble and the production staff. No trace of any irritatingly narcissistic "you like me!" Then she became progressively pressured and frazzled.

I don't care a whit, but I wish she had just stopped gracefully when she had that "senior moment" of forgetting her next point, but instead she stammered until she gathered enough words to spout a trite “If mothers ruled the world, there would be no god-damned wars in the first place.”

I would like to think that G_d would damn this horribly conceived and executed war and that most mothers would hate it too. Let's forget Fox and move on to stopping the Iraqi debacle.

I watch the Emmy's because I love entertainment and to see a celebrity accept the award for their acting. I am not interested about their opinion about politics. Not the time or place Sally Fields!

I agree with "s" - whatever happened to free speech here in the US? That wasn't offensive - a very reasonable opinion. Free speech now is only allowed if it supports the personal aims of the right-wing "skull and bones" MEN who run the country these days. If free speech had been occuring before the Iraq invasion, their fabrications would have been better exposed, and we wouldn't have given Al Qaeda such a big advantage by opening up a whole new country to them, giving Iran so much momentum and letting Bin Laden roam without effective challenge in Afghanistan.

"If mothers ruled the world, there wouldn't be any god -" Emmy winner Sally Field said before the Emmycast cut her off her sound and pointed the camera away from the stage so viewers would be distracted. Cut off were the words "god-damned wars."

If Sally Field wants to give her political views let her buy an ad in the New York Times. I'm sure she would get the Move On. Org discount!

Censorship is dull. America was made great by dissenting voices. Every venue is a perfect venue for speaking out. To cut-out Sally Field's remarks is just boring. Who cares what side of the issue she is on, she is a winner, let us hear her remarks.
