What is the story that so many people, in this case so many Americans, seem to feel that unless they are famous or infamous, they are not quite worthwhile?

I suppose TV has much to do with my question but it seems that so many will do almost anything for their 15 mins of fame or infamy.

Doing stupid things and actually placing it on U Tube for all to see or signing up for 'bound to make you look stupid' Reality Shows.

I'd like to try and understand why people place themselves in this position so willingly.

Before any of you start flying off the handle, I'm not having a go, I'd just like to try and understand.

Because Americans are taught to be insecure lemmings. Things like academics, family, good jobs, and working hard aren't valued anymore. We have turned into a "look at me" society and everyone wants a go.

Well when you figure that out let me know !!
Because who in the world can explain why people feel fame is the answer. It is a question that has been around for a long, long time. The need for fame and glory predates YouTube or TV.
It is part of the human condition for many.
