Sometimes, my favorite thing to do is ask them their name, write it down then ask if their manager is available. I told some chick in WalMart that I was from the head office & there had been complaints filed on her & it was my job to check it out. I asked how long had she been working at this store & told her I would put in my notes they she was just not feeling well. This poor girl was so apologetic, I almost felt gulity.
Remember, I said, ALMOST.

Customer service is a priority in any business. I did insurance for over 30 years. Rudeness is the number one killer of customers. I would report them to the manager so they are aware for sure that this person is hurting their business. It really is. I know from experience.

If I get a rude cashier I get loud and obnoxious like he/she has insulted me so that I make a scene and draw attention.

won't generally bother me (i laugh it off really laughing at them) and i dont go there. but if its above and beyond rude (cursing & such). they will get it back in spades. you can have the crappiest day on arth but you don't take it out on others especially not customers (they dont have to come back to the store and can spread word that the establishment isn't worth shopping at).

I ask them why they are having a bad day? And I sweetly and sarcastically say, I hope your day gets better. You know smiles as well as compassion are contagious.

I say something and I leave the crap there for them to put back, and sometimes I talk to the Manager

If they're rude I definitely don't smile at them but I try not to stoop to their level either.
