Maddie in movie Quills?

In the 2000 movie Quills staring Geoffry Rush and Kate Winslet...how did Maddie die? I know Bouchon killed her but what did he do? Totally missed it I guess!

He drownded her. I have the movie.

He cut her across the chest with a scissors a few times and i think he cut her tongue out.
