Believe me, I'd hate so sound like some illiterate conservative who trolls the politics section, but I came across this gem, laughed, and wanted to share it.

These are some quotes from Republicans when Clinton deployed troops to Bosnia. The Republicans back then were saying the same thing Democrats are saying today.

There are more if you follow the link.

"You can support the troops but not the president." - Rep Tom Delay (R-TX)

"If we are going to commit American troops, we must be certain they have a clear mission, an achievable goal and an exit strategy." - Karen Hughes, speaking on behalf of George W Bush

Let me guess, 9/11 changed everything? Haha

No seriously, why the change? Why demonize liberals who are saying these things today? The Republicans were "rational" back then right? So why are these things "irrational" today?

@dizneyland fan: Maybe if you read the post, you'd see what I'm "ranting about," and you'd see that my last four lines are infact questions.

@andy_g: Clinton said that, and yet he did not act on it. Why? Well, not invading is consistent with his quote at the top of the page I linked:

"We are not the world's policemen. It's not our job to clean up other countries messes or arrest it's bad guys." - Bill Clinton

Even though he felt Iraq was a "rogue" state he do you think that he could have gone to war after all the criticism and badgering he recieved over Bosnia? It's a bit like how George Bush won't have full backing to touch Iran.

@john_c: George Bush said there is no link between 9/11 and Iraq. Why do you still believe this? Why do you still believe they had WMDs? (or "weopens of mass destruction" as you like to call them)

@buttercup: Declaring a "global war on terrorism" is not a clear objective if you ask me.

"Victory means exit strategy, and it's important for the President to explain to us what the exit strategy is." - Governor George W. Bush (R-TX)

So what's our exit strategy, buttercup?

@BekindtoAnimals22: Yep, it shows that Democrats were hypocritical to a degree also.

They don't care about the policies, the consequences, or the message. Their only care in the universe is who happens to be the messenger. If the messenger is a Dem, then it must be vilified. If the messenger is a Republican, then it has to be supported. The message is barely an afterthought.

Your loss of abilities amazes me. The pope being a Nazi formative years member and Celtic fanatics making a song "republican songs" have without doubt not anything to do with every different for a begin. Secondly, I haven't any inspiration why Rangers fanatics are not able to sing The Hockey Cokey, it wasn't carried out by way of Celtic pronouncing it used to be offensive to the fanatics like every other songs Rangers fanatics sing; it used to be the doings of a Falkirk MP. Lastly, you had no option underneath Hilter's command whether or not you desired to become a member of the Hilter/Nazi formative years or now not; you had been brainwashed by way of in depth propaganda and had been tortured and killed in case you adverse it. Now except you're eight years historic, that is anything you need to were taught at Primary School. Your query is absolutely irelevant to some thing nugatory.

Nothing is rational in Washington anymore, especially anything said on Capitol Hill.

What this country truly needs are some politicians who were born and raised in the Middle Class, know what it's like to work 40 hours a week and live paycheck to paycheck, and who served in the military as enlisted personnel...not officers.

Of course...that will never happen because few people who went through that could afford to run for office, and winning a political seat is simply a matter of who has the most money to produce the flashiest ads.

At least the Democrats were civil enough not to call them unpatriotic, siding with the enemy, or surrendering. What a shame they have taken this to such low levels for doing the same thing they did a few short years ago; look at the problem rationally.

EDIT: How is it hypocracy? They are very valid questions to ask when undertaking a war. Difference being, their patriotism wasn't questioned and attacked.

Guess it depends on who is talking
"In the next century, the community of nations may see more and more the very kind of threat Iraq poses now -- a rogue state with weapons of mass destruction ready to use them or provide them to terrorists, drug traffickers or organized criminals who travel the world among us unnoticed.

If we fail to respond today, Saddam and all those who would follow in his footsteps will be emboldened tomorrow by the knowledge that they can act with impunity, even in the face of a clear message from the United Nations Security Council and clear evidence of a weapons of mass destruction program."

Seriously, 9-11 did change everything. We were attacked by
terrorists who killed 3000 innocent citizens on our own soil.
That gives the U.S. a good enough reason to take action
against terrorists who think they can just come over here and
cause havic and murder just anyone, like they have done for
years in their own country. Karen Hughes was right, we do
have a clear mission (showing terrorists they can't expect to
come here and randomly kill our people without us retaliating,
and helping the poor normal citizens of Iraq who have had to
live under these terrorists in daily fear of their lives and have
asked our help). That's good enough for me. The world
should not have thugs and dictators who terrorize and ruin
people's lives by their constant maiming and murdering of
other people who have done them no wrong. Enough!!!!!

I think it's because of 9/11 that attitudes changed. But it is kind of funny that Democrats and Republicans completely switched places.

Down here in Texas we had a fella run for governor named Kinky Friedman...he once said something at my college that stuck in my head...he said "the crips and the bloods are so busy killing each other that they forgot about the neighborhood"...I hope you all see that by "crips" he means Democrats and by "bloods" he means republicans....
I can't really argue against what he said...the republicans AND the democrats don't really give a damn about the everyday American...and it's partly our fault. Since most Americans DON'T VOTE...the politicians don't give a damn what the average American says...they care about what the people that DO consistently VOTE say and think...and 9 times out of 10...these people are far right...or far left, therefore our system has lost most of its moderates...and we NEED moderates to keep any one party from becoming too powerful...its never a good thing for any one party to have absolute control...only bad things can come from that. We need to all start voting...AND becoming informed about the politics of our government...I challenge you to a task...go ask your friends and family who their congressman/woman and senators are...I bet you'll be surprised who doesn't know...How the hell are you supposed to hold your politicians responsible and vote correctly if you don't know something as simple as who represents you!?!?! These same people will deride the president and go on and on about what our government should do when they don't really even know their proverbial head from their proverbial hindquarters...Think about it...ask your friends and family...it's really kind of scary...

I completely agree with Buttercup and John C.

and who would have EVER thunk this would have come from a lib: "Republicans have no charactor! They care not for this countrys dignity or respect of history and honorable tradition." Since when are liberals so concerned about honor and traditional values??

Republicans have no charactor! They care not for this countrys dignity or respect of history and honorable tradition. Who would ever believe that we, the United States would ever be so disrespected throughout the world.
Our pride and dignity is a shambles; our military is worn out, our budget is spent, and yet the Republican National Party continues to cling to President Bush's coattails.
They're hypocrites.
Thanks
