I've never looked at it like that. The answer to your question is that he has a light-sensitivity condition that can lead to migraines. It keeps the glare of the sun away from his eyes. He got a new one during training camp. It's blue, and pretty cool looking.

He actually gets migraines from the bright lights so he's allowed to wear that shade thingy on his facemask (doctor's permission).
