What do you need to be, in order to "be a man"?

A man is accountable and sentient, differentiating him from a boy. While a "male" must merely possess the appropriate biolgocal paraphernalia, a man requires a great deal more.

A man is aware of both his own existence and the existence of others, aware in a way that only sympathy, compassion, emphathy and duty convey. He is strong enough to shoulder the tasks he must, even if shouldering them requires asking for help. He is honorable, in that he accepts both accountability for his actions and their consequences. He stands by his convictions and doesn't remain silent in the face of wrongs, but he also respects others.

He is capable of love, chooses friends he admires and respects, and receives the same from them. He doesn't put people down and always pauses to help a person up when they trip in front of him.

I am really not sure, because even in our society there are culturally different definitions. I am sure that street thugs that knock up women, sell drugs, and do not take care of their responsibilities think they are real men. I am sure that regular guys, who work all day, and support their family think they are the real men. even guys who sit around all day and never experience life think they are real men. personally, I think it is someone who takes care of their responsibilities, and has a sense of curiosity for the world around him. I think empathy is a good trait in moderation because it allows you to make decisions compassionately, but i also think a man, unless proved wrong, when he truly believes something is right or wrong should stand in that belief, and be willing to defend it. This said it is still a relative definition.

ok.. serious time. To be a man, all you need to do is be yourself. Well here atleast. A man is somebody who can take care of his other half, while letting them be themsevles too. I am happily married, and I am a man. Kharm would even say so. And all I do is care about her.
