Neither.
I want an AMERICAN with loyalty to the Constitution and the willingness to uphold their oath of office.

Personally, I agree with your Grandma.
I want a moderate-to-liberal Democrat, myself, and would prefer John Edwards. I say this because he seems to be the democrat most interested in representing the true working class and has the moral qualities many moderates are looking for. Some of the other candidates have lost sight of this previously most important democratic ideal of representing the working class. But, if they are nominated, they'd still be the lesser of the two evils and still vote democrat anyway.
The republicans and their media outlets will tell you otherwise. They will say the democrats do not represent the working class, but rather the wealthy. I use to believe this too when I was younger...but upon closer inspection I can tell you confidently that they are lying. They will cite politicians and Hollywood celebs as the 'wealthy liberal elite,' but will not mention that there are just as many Hollywood celebs and politicians that are wealthy and republican. (George W. Bush is not your "everyday man," he's not even from Texas.) The show off their policies as if they are really helping the middle class but they aren't. Bush's tax cuts only really aided the wealthy across the board. Furthermore, currently we have the biggest divide in annual income between the 'upper' and 'lower' brackets than ever before in modern American history, and unemployment is rising, except for minimum-wage paying jobs. Clinton's tax agenda, however, did far more for you or I than anything Bush has done. But do your own, unbiased research and you'll find this out for yourself.
That being said, I think its time we swing left with our social and economic frustration, instead of right. In recent years the trend has been to swing farther and farther right, and we are currently farther right on the political spectrum then anyone thought possible, and look where that has gotten us. The deficit is huge, but conservatives continue to believe that trickle-down-economics works.

I'm not thrilled with what the either party has done with their power.
Government is very inefficient at everything that it does. They usually do it poorly as well. Democrats are always trying to get the Government to "fix" everything. How do they do this?
More agencies
More committees
More regulations
More oversight
More taxes
More laws.
......I want the government Smaller, not bigger. Republicans SAY that this is what they want. There are only 2 candidates that would actually do this. Mitt Romney and Ron Paul.
If you look at places in the country that have been very democratic for a long time, they tend to have poor economies, lots of run-down areas, and lots of social problems. Most of this is a direct result of laws that they passed with "unintended consequences".
Lets say your city has some poor people....lets raise taxes to take care of them. Great...you raise taxes, now we can give them some money. People learn that they can get money from the government. More people become poor. Raise taxes. The wealthy people realize that it's better for them if they move their company elsewhere because of taxes. They do so, the jobs disappear, and now they have to raise taxes even more. This happens all the time. Who does it end up hurting???? Everyone...but especially the poor, because now things cost even more, and it's even harder to get a job.
.......and most democrats don't even recognize this and they continue to think that they're helping the poor.

The truth is both parties have their good and bad points. The Republicans care more about national defense and less government in the lives of people. Well with the exception of the one we have now. The Democrats are for tax payer supported health care, and giving more to the people on welfare and believe that the government should be more into peoples everyday lives. I myself am a Republican Conservative, I think the way things are now, it would be good if one group held the presidency and the other the congress. That will mean that nether side can just implement what ever policy and laws they see fit to. I am all for a happy medium and one side watching the other. I myself think Fred Thompson would be a good president, and is a good man. So I am pulling for him. Take a look at http://www.fred08.com/index.aspx See what you think, you should research about all the candidates before you chose which one you are going to vote for in any election, I have voted democrat a few time because I liked what they said and the way their record looked.

This country was founded on us as a Republic. Individual freedoms. A democracy or democrats are more a socialized party which comes very close to socialism in which everyone is entitled to government healthcare and our taxes are raised to support the unmotivated. That is communism.Democracy is two wolves and one lamb deciding whats for dinner. Republican would be the lamb has a gun. Give me liberty or give me death.
Never the less our political system has become corporate. In which republican or democrat it will all yeild the same results in a different fashion.
Facts and Proof below.
Have a nice day, while you still can.

Anything besides another Republican. After Reagan and Bush 2, Republicans should be banned from running for the office.
Today's Republicans harness the most destructive fiscal policies a Democracy can devise. All they seem to know of is "tax cut" as if the economy isn't far more complex than the lowest common denominator. They have no long term methodology when it comes to foreign policy and the US economy.
Same goes for Carter on the Dem side.

Down here in Texas we had a fella run for governor named Kinky Friedman...he once said something at my college that stuck in my head...he said "the crips and the bloods are so busy killing each other that they forgot about the neighborhood"...I hope you all see that by "crips" he means Democrats and by "bloods" he means republicans....
I can't really argue against what he said...the republicans AND the democrats don't really give a damn about the everyday American...and it's partly our fault. Since most Americans DON'T VOTE...the politicians don't give a damn what the average American says...they care about what the people that DO consistently VOTE say and think...and 9 times out of 10...these people are far right...or far left, therefore our system has lost most of its moderates...and we NEED moderates to keep any one party from becoming too powerful...its never a good thing for any one party to have absolute control...only bad things can come from that. We need to all start voting...AND becoming informed about the politics of our government...I challenge you to a task...go ask your friends and family who their congressman/woman and senators are...I bet you'll be surprised who doesn't know...How the hell are you supposed to hold your politicians responsible and vote correctly if you don't know something as simple as who represents you!?!?! These same people will deride the president and go on and on about what our government should do when they don't really even know their proverbial head from their proverbial hindquarters...Think about it...ask your friends and family...it's really kind of scary...

Preferably Duncan Hunter, although he is a long shot at best.
and the notion that republicans only care about the rich and democrats only care about the poor is absolutely nonsense and your grandmother shoud be condemned for passing on such tainted information to your young mind.

I see morons come in all shapes and sizes. A democrat will put you in harms way to protect their idiocy just as fast as a republican would. WWII, Korea, and Vietnam should be proof of that. yes all presidents were democrat at the time as well. You know Vietnam's was for sure. The french were involved.

Definitely a republican. The democrats only care about keeping people poor and in need so they can buy their votes. Congress had democratic control for 30 years and had tons of government programs and they all failed to stop poverty.
Republicans understand how the economy works and stand up for right and wrong.
All the democrats are extremely wealthy and stay as far away from "regular people" like you and me as possible. They all go to parties with Hollywood celebrities and talk about us as if we were their pets.
John Edwards claims to care about poor people, but he won't help the people living in the trailer park right next to him. John Kerry had a mansion flown in from France for one of his many vacation homes because nothing in the US was good enough for him.
Instead of blindly following what your grandmother told you about politicians years ago, why not go directly to the candidates websites and see their positions for yourself.
Check out www.mittromney.com and look at the videos of his positions and interviews. I think you'll find him much more inspiring and in touch with you than any of the democrtats.
