We have free will. That means we can choose to take another path if we want to. The events are set in motion, but the pawn can refuse to move with them.
The only time our own actions cannot have an affect on the outcome is when we are already over the cliff and someone else is driving.

I don't think that they are really in control, it is more like they are out of control and don't know where to turn. Obviously, anyone so distraught that they want to end their life, is not in the right state of mind. Suicide leaves behind a lot of unanswered questions for the person's family and friends.

Fate, determinism and destiny are rather interesting concepts.
If you accept such a theory then, every child that was abused today was abused as that is how it was meant to be. It was already determined. It was pre-determined. If this is your belief, why would we do anything to intervene. It was meant to be after all.
Or, it may be that we apply pre-determinism when it seems convenient for us.

Look..Death is not pre-ordained.. God doesn't go around arrainging for kids to die in a car wreck.. or some two year old child being raped and beaten to death by some pervert.. death is not pre-ordained.. get it in your head and always remember.. God is a just and caring God.. death is not his plan.. life is.. you are not destined to die any certain way or at some preset time and no one else is either.. now go live..

Determined before? By whom?
No. A person thereby has chosen when their life ends. It doesn't seem so dynamic to me.

It depends on if you have any religious beliefs or not. You know, the old "everything happens for a reason" saying comes to mind.

Yes, they are definitely in control, because we all have free will. Remember they could also choose to get help.

very interesting question, this is getting me to think...i think they are in control on what they are doing, but they exclude everything that surrounds them, such as family and love ones...nothing matters to them at that particular point.
