Get the brand that has a shop in your town... Don't buy a bike (say a suzuki, if you don't have a zuke dealership in your area). This way when you do break down or need parts, you can get them.

all three are very comparible bikes. you might also throw in the Honda CRF150R in the mix for a racing 4 stroke, also throw in the KTM 85 SX or XC and the Suzuki RM85L.

basically these come down to rider / riding preference... My personal preference would be Honda CRF150R, Honda CR85R expert, KTM SX / XC 85 (or even the 105), Kawasaki KX85, Suzuki RM85L... then the Yamaha YZ85...

I have owned about 20 or so different Hondas, roughly 12 Kawasakis, 6 Suzukis, 3 KTMs without anything major ... over normal wear & tear parts and top ends... my bike of choice lately has been the KTMs but these are quite a bit higher priced over the Jap top 4... personally, I have not had good luck with Yamahas in general, but some of my friends swear by them ...

I'm just glad we have choices ...

good luck in picking one!!!

Actually, all the bikes you list are very close in performance and price. The deciding factor for me would be dealer location and support. If the Yamaha shop is down the street no sense in driving 25 miles to the Honda shop. Or, if the Kawasaki dealer is willing to throw in a bunch of riding gear or offer future parts at discount. Talk to the dealers and see which one will offer the best package deal.

I don't know which is best but I like all bikes, I ride everything under the sun but in this instance I would buy the Honda but I don't think you can lose with any of them. So don't take my word for it. Go to the book store and check out some magazines and read about the bikes you are thinking of buying (you can read the magazines right there in the store without buying them) and then make an educated decision. You might be able to find a comparison test on them.
Good Luck

It would be really hard to say with-out being bias. I like the Kawasaki's but Honda's and Suzuki's are great bikes as well. I really don't know about the Yamaha. Really its just what one you like the best. P.S. why no Suzuki : / if your only interested in their performance's. They may not be the most flashy bike but they just make great bikes. If it were me I would pick the Kawasaki. I like Kawasaki's for the performance but they really aren't normally the best lookers to some. o ya Kawasaki and Suzuki's are prity much the same bikes so if you don't like Suzuki then I don't think you would like the Kawasaki, and if that's so get the Honda.

I know someone who has a YZ85 and they love it. Nice dirtbike and Yamaha makes great bikes, both dirtbikes and motorcycles. Go yamaha you'll be happy.

(we have a yamaha motorcycle and a kawasaki as well and quality wise yamaha is right up there, they've also had an excellent history with their dirtbikes)

I would have to say Honda normally but with a bike that small I do not think it will make much of a difference. My personal experience is to stay away from Kawasaki, though I do hear they have improved. I still like the Honda's, then Yamaha.

Honestly when dealing with a such a small bike I would just go for the cheapest. They're all virtually the same when it comes to small 85cc dirt bikes and none of them are really that great. for a very small jump in price you could get the kawasaki kx100 which is quite a better machine than the 85's

They are all great bikes. If you are gunna win the race it will not be because you are on bike ‘A’ vs bike ‘B’. Winning races at your level is all rider and the bike is just the tool.

All of the choices are good and I would go with the best dealer and the best price and they are so close in performance which color do you like.

Honda, or Yamaha. But I've never known anyone to be particularly happy with a Kawasaki.

Dude, which one do you think is best? Those three have been competing against each other on the race track for decades and all of them want to win making them so closely matched the best one may not be the popular answer...it would be the one you think is best and the one that you win on...
