have a emachine and when i try to burn a dvd it says no dvd in drive but one is what could be wrong?

Depending on what OS you are using, it could mean that your DVD burner (no matter the age) needs to be replaced.

If you are using XP, then XP itself should recognize a blank disc. If you ARE using XP and it doesn't recognize a blank disc, then consider it a sign that a new one is needed.

First, make sure you're using the right format of DVD. Some burners require DVD+ and some require DVD-.

If that's not the problem, try reinstalling the driver for the DVD burner.

Go to Control Panel, then System. Click the Hardware tab and then Device Manager. Click the + sign next to "DVD Drives." Note the exact brand and model of the DVD drive. Search Google for that brand name's website, and then search for the driver. Open the installation file and follow the prompts. This will reinstall the drivers.

If that doesn't work, the DVD drive probably needs to be replaced. This happens frequently on E-Machines and on the cheaper Dells because both use inexpensive drives that tend to go bad easily.

i had this problem before too it use to take dvd-r but something happened and now it takes dvd+r and i have to make sure when it loads it says burn speed at 2.4x or it wont work. This is what i have to do pop the disc in and out until it loads but i think you might want to get a new dvd burner $50 and some new dvd's $15 from best buy or office depot. Maybe try memorex.

Make sure that the media in your drive is a DVD disc (single or dual layer depending upon the capabilities of your drive) and is inserted label side up.

Try burning a CD first to see if it will recognize that media format.
