hehe, I thought about that myself, and about his kid, how can he throw a piano and then cant get the door off of the place they are locked into in the boat...I thought it was contradictory, but anyway, superman might have been not wanting his hair do to be messed up...and the kid didnt want to take away from daddys 5 minutes of fame...maybe??? What about in the movie Superman had a stalker thing going on with his ex flame Lois, hehe, never knew he was so intense. Who knows what runs through superheros minds as they go through their days. :)-Rachel

It is probably a visual reflex or just a way to add excitement to a story about someone who is hard to hurt.
Why doesn't he just approach the guy with a gun at super speed and yank it (and the trigger finger) right out of the gunman's hand? That would work but would make the story very boring.
