Is loving yourself the same thing as having self regard?

Since everyone tries to satisfy their desires. But if some people really didn't love themselves, why wouldn't they try to deny themselves as they would with an enemy instead of trying to satisfy their selfish instincts.

people who are born with fangs may not like being toothey but the instinct to bite comes with the tooth ,the heart is fed a different way , they dont have to like what they do to do it ,, if you deny that instinct , you won't have anyplace to draw the line when the gun is in your hand and all you have is a mirror
